Highs & Lows: 03/30/18

My sister-in-law does this really awesome thing every week on her blog called Highs & Lows. She shares her three best and worst parts of the week along with the best thing she ate and what's up for the weekend. I decided to follow suit and today is my first go at it!

Highs:

  1. Last Saturday's March For Our Lives in Chicago: I have attended all of the other major marches in Chicago, the ones right after the election, both Women's marches, and the Climate March. This one was a little differnt becasue it happened to take place about 8 blocks from our home which was super handy because i was teaching in the morning so I was able to walk right over after. I still don't know the final count but there were people as far as the eye could see. We caught the last 15-20 minutes of the speeches and then, after a long time rounding people up, finally marched. It was great to see so many people turn out and for voices to be heard.
  2. Finding out on Sunday that we are having a BABY BOY! That's right, read all about our gender reveal party here!
  3. I haven't shared a ton about this yet but we have re-started construction, this time on our rooftop and I am pleased to say our new windows and siding are almost totally done! Pics below!

Lows:

  1. Even though having the windows and siding installed was a major HIGH, in the proccess an old window shattered into a thousand pieces and came raining down from the 3rd floor to the first. I have swept and vacuumed about 12 times but I still think there are probably tiny pieces of glass that will never go away.
  2. Monday morning! Ugh I forgot my anti-nausea meds the night before, I got a crappy night sleep, and then after teaching my 5:30am I came home and TOTALLY forgot I was subbing a 7am. I sprinted to Soho and got there 10 min late and luckily the class was so easy going they just had me go an extra 10 min late. But I swear it threw off my whole week.
  3. This was a little more than a week ago but it's been weighing on me and I wanted to share in case others have gone through this. We opted to do both genetics testing and carrier screening with this pregnancy. Thankfully the genetics, which tests for the liklihood of the baby having Downs Syndrome and other chromosome disorders, came back good. But it turns out I am a carrier for two recessive dissorders that I can't pronounce or even describe but sound scary. The next step is testing my husband and making sure he isn't also a carrier. If he isn't we are clear. If he is there will be more testing done for the baby. The only other people I initially knew who had done this were friends who weren't carriers for ANYTHING. Luckily one family friend warned me that her and all of her friends had been carriers for things and all of their children were fine. I think if we are going to have this information at our fingertips we should be more transparent with one another about how scary it can be to get news that you have absolutely no control over. We will have more info in a few weeks but fingers crossed.

Best Thing I Ate:

A slightly new rendition of one of my favorite crock pot meals: Moroccan Chicken

Weekend Plans:

Oh man maybe finally getting our tax documents in order - ugh! And Easter! We will head up to Lake Forest to spend the holiday with my husbands fam. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
